On May 14, 2020, Garden Fresh Restaurants LLC, owner of Souplantation and Sweet Tomatoes restaurants, filed a voluntary petition for relief under Chapter 7 of Title 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code.

The principal place of business for Garden Fresh Restaurants LLC was in northern San Diego county and has been more commonly known by San Diego residents as the chain of Souplantation restaurants. Although it was a popular place to dine with self-service salad bars, soups, breads, and desserts, it was not able to survive the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and permanently closed all of its 97 restaurants nationwide.

Garden Fresh Restaurants LLC contacted Shareholder Gary Rudolph to represent the company in filing for a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. The company estimated $50 million to $100 million in assets, liabilities between $50 million to $100 million, and close to 19,000 creditors, which is one of the largest number of creditors in a bankruptcy filed in the Southern District of California.
