Sullivan Hill attorneys Shailendra (Shay) Kulkarni and Yaniv Newman will present at the upcoming Midwinter Meeting for the American Bar Association (ABA) Forum on Construction Law in Los Angeles on Jan. 31 at the Division 13 (Government Construction) lunch.
They will present on the historical analysis of the “responsive” and “responsible” bidder requirements for publicly bid construction contracts.
The ABA Forum on Construction Law is the largest association of construction lawyers in the world. Members of the Forum represent all segments of the construction industry: owners, design professionals, general contractors, construction managers, subcontractors, suppliers, insurers, and sureties. The Forum’s mission is to serve the construction industry through education and leadership.
The Midwinter Meeting will take place from Jan. 30 through Feb. 1 at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel. The theme of the Midwinter Meeting is “Public Construction Projects: Not Always a Hollywood Ending.”
Mr. Kulkarni is a shareholder in the Construction and Real Estate Litigation practice groups of Sullivan Hill. Having served as the chairman of the Construction Law Section of the San Diego County Bar Association for two years, he currently serves on the Executive Committee of that group. He also serves as the Division 13 (Government Construction) Liaison to the Diversity Committee of the ABA Forum on Construction Law, and as a member of the NEXT Initiative of the Urban Land Institute. Mr. Kulkarni also proudly serves the San Diego community as an advisory board member and mentoring program co-chair for the Crawford Academy of Law program, and as a member of the Build and Serve Committee of the San Diego Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America.
Mr. Newman is a part of Sullivan Hill’s Construction, Insurance, and Commercial and Business Litigation practice groups. He practices primarily in the areas of construction and insurance litigation matters, with an emphasis on construction defect actions, construction claims and insurance coverage disputes. Mr. Newman currently serves as chair for the Construction Law Section of the San Diego County Bar Association. From 2015-2018, he served as chair of the board of directors of Swords to Plowshares, a San Francisco based veterans service nonprofit that provides a variety of services to thousands of Bay Area veterans each year.
