Shareholder Shailendra (Shay) Kulkarni will be giving a presentation titled, “The Tip of the Spearin: Notes from the Cutting Edge of Design-related Owner Liability” at the upcoming Midwinter Meeting of the ABA Forum on Construction Law in Tucson, Arizona on Friday, January 24, 2020. The presentation, which Mr. Kulkarni will be co-presenting with colleague Lance Currie, will consist of an analysis of recent cases involving the applicability (or non-applicability) of the Spearin Doctrine to disputes regarding alleged design-related damages on construction projects.
The ABA Forum on Construction Law is the largest association of construction lawyers in the world. Members of the Forum represent all segments of the construction industry: owners, design professionals, general contractors, construction managers, subcontractors, suppliers, insurers, and sureties. The Forum’s mission is to serve the construction industry through education and leadership.

Mr. Kulkarni is a Shareholder in the Construction and Real Estate Litigation practice groups of Sullivan Hill. He is the former two-time Chairman of the Construction Law Section of the San Diego County Bar Association. He currently serves on the Steering Committee of Division 13 (Government Construction) of the ABA Forum on Construction Law, and as a member of the NEXT Initiative of the Urban Land Institute. Mr. Kulkarni also proudly serves the San Diego community as an Advisory Board Member and Mentoring Program Co-chair for the Crawford Academy of Law program, and as a member of the Build and Serve Committee of the San Diego Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America.
