Sullivan Hill’s Jim Hill and Gary Rudolph will be panelists at the California Lawyers Association (CLA)’s program titled, Litigation Funding in Bankruptcy Cases: How to Get it & Potential Pitfalls (Help Me Legalist, You’re My Only Hope). The panel will discuss litigation financing in bankruptcy cases and how to obtain it, along with its benefits and potential pitfalls. The presentation will include discussion of the rules related to the engagement of litigation professionals and the requirements to obtain financing for litigation and bankruptcy proceedings from funders like legalists. The panel will discuss real-world cases that involve litigation and insolvency financing to see its application in practice from the perspectives of the debtor-in-possession, bankruptcy trustee, Bankruptcy Court, and the funder. The program will take place on October 21, 2021, at 12:00 p.m.

Shareholder Jim Hill is a founding member of Sullivan Hill, member of its Executive Committee and chair of the firm’s Insolvency and Commercial Bankruptcy practice group. Mr. Hill practices primarily in the areas of bankruptcy, insolvency and commercial law. His bankruptcy experience includes representation of creditors, bankruptcy trustees and select bankruptcy debtors in Chapter 11 business reorganization cases, and he has served as a court-appointed examiner and mediator. He also works regularly with clients on asset sales and acquisitions, on state and federal court receivership cases, and on business workouts and dissolution matters, among other commercial law matters. Mr. Hill served two terms as the inaugural Chair of the CLA and was Chair of its Business Law Section and Co-Chair of its Insolvency Law Committee before CLA’s separation from the State Bar of California.
Shareholder Gary Rudolph is a member of Sullivan Hill’s Insolvency & Commercial Bankruptcy practice group. He focuses his practice on the areas of business consultation, bankruptcy and other insolvency matters, including representation of corporate and commercial Chapter 11 and 7 debtors, landlords and tenants, creditors in commercial bankruptcy proceedings, Chapter 7 and 11 trustees and other court appointed fiduciaries. Mr. Rudolph currently serves as the chair of the of the Bankruptcy Law Section of the San Diego County Bar Association and serves on the executive committee of the Business Law Section of the CLA. He also serves on the board of directors for the non-profit agencies Angels Foster Family Network and San Diego Second Chance Program, as well as for the California Western School of Law Alumni Association.
