As vice president for the California Bankruptcy Forum (“CBF”), Shareholder Christopher Hawkins manages CBF’s Pro Bono Project and oversees all pro bono efforts for the organization. CBF is committed to supporting pro bono efforts of the various local bankruptcy forums and county bar associations throughout the state. For their pro bono initiative this year, CBF has chosen Voluntary Legal Services Program of Northern California, Inc. (“VLSP”) as the recipient of all funds raised by CBF’s Pro Bono Project.
VLSP is a nonprofit agency that has provided free legal assistance for civil legal matters to low income people in the Sacramento region since 1981. Through donations, VLSP is able to fulfill its mission in enhancing justice for people of limited means by resolving their civil legal problems (including bankruptcy) through pro bono representation, training volunteers to improve access to the legal system, and educating clients to create greater self-sufficiency. Fundraising will commence in April 2018.
