Elvira Cortez is an associate at Sullivan, Hill, Lewin, Rez, and Engel, where she is a member of Sullivan Hill’s construction litigation, insurance coverage, and business litigation practice groups. Her experience includes representing large real estate developers, general contractors, and subcontractors in complex, multimillion-dollar litigation involving large residential and commercial construction projects. She has also assisted local businesses by resolving commercial disputes and defending employment lawsuits. Elvira also has extensive experience in interpreting commercial general liability policies and resolving disputes between policyholders and insurance companies.
She was awarded a B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles and a J.D. from American University Washington College of Law. San Diego Business Journal named her among its “Best of the Bar” for 2016.
While attending the American University Washington College of Law, Elvira was a member of the American University International Law Journal and is the author of “Total Recall on Chinese Imports: Pursuing an End to Current Unsafe Health and Safety Standards Through Article XX of GATT,” 23 Am. U. Int’l L. Rev 2 (Spring 2008).
Elvira currently sits on the board for Lawyers Club and co-chairs the Lawyers Club Diverse Women’s Committee.
