Summary

Ashley B. Kerins is a member of Sullivan Hill’s Business and Corporate Transactions and Tax practice groups. She focuses her practice primarily in the areas of real estate, corporate, partnership and business transactions and in tax planning, tax controversy resolution. As a member of the Business and Corporate Transactions group, her practice extends to real estate transactions, financings and business organizations.

Prior to joining Sullivan Hill, Ms. Kerins practiced in the areas of civil tax controversy, criminal tax, bankruptcy, individual and entity tax planning and corporate law.

Expertise

Ms. Kerins has representative experience defending clients and corporations before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Franchise Tax Board (FTB), Employment Development Department (EDD), State Board of Equalization (SBOE), and the US Attorneys’ Office. Prior to graduating law school, she served as an extern for the Hon. Marilyn L. Huff at the United States District Court for the Southern District of California.

Ms. Kerins has significant public interest experience. During law school, she worked as a legal extern with the University of San Diego’s Federal Income Tax Clinic. She also volunteered her time with the San Diego Public Defender’s Office and the Unlawful Detainer and Domestic Violence Clinic. She previously served as a board member of a 501(c)(3) organization, the Rwandan Orphans Project (ROP). ROP is a San Diego based organization that provides housing and schooling to over 100 boys that have been affected by disease or genocide in Rwanda. Additionally, she served as the co-chair of the Young Tax Lawyers from 2012 until 2014.

Ms. Kerins was named a Top Young Attorney in 2013 by the San Diego Daily Transcript, Best Lawyer in 2015 by San Diego Metro Magazine, Best of the Bar in 2015 and 2016 by the San Diego Business Journal, and a Rising Star by Super Lawyers in 2017 and 2018.

Ms. Kerins is admitted to practice in all California State Courts, United States Tax Court, the United States District Court for the Southern District of California, and the Supreme Court of the State of California. She is a member of the State Bar of California, San Diego County Bar Association and Young Tax Lawyers.  She is also a lecturer for San Diego State University, teaching courses on Tax Practice, Procedure and Ethics.
